When Scripture and the confessions take second place to academic and social fashion, the result cannot be otherwise than that the university has decided that Scripture and the Confessions are in second place to gaining the approval of American socialist academic approval.Kenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00138551532926411195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329600504016968888.post-57358879166619325482012-05-28T10:52:13.842-05:002012-05-28T10:52:13.842-05:00Professor Niedner laments the fact that Lutheran b...Professor Niedner laments the fact that Lutheran bodies are not united like the Roman Catholics. He blames the "backwardness" of the LCMS for this. I am looking forward to reading an article by Prof. Niedner regarding the ELCA. Why has that dream of Lutheran unity been a disaster. What are his thoughts regarding the theology of the NALC and the LCMC? Why do these bodies still endorse Historical/Higher Criticism?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329600504016968888.post-51957108155688672712012-05-28T10:44:40.964-05:002012-05-28T10:44:40.964-05:00Rich:

He heads a group that is lobbying to get the LCMS to endorse Women's Ordiation and to accept homosexuality:

http://www.onword.net/

Valpo finally realizes that members of the LCMS have finally woken up to the fact that Valparaiso University is ELCA in everything but name. Peters:

Blessings to you on this Pentecost Sunday.

Thank you for continuing the discussion about Valparaiso University beyond your post of May 14 “Pietas and a Christian University.”

I will not repeat my comments on that May 14 post. Simply to say that I treasure the two years I spent at Valpo (all I could afford since it was relatively pricey even back then) in particular because it raised questions about my faith -- and in the process of answering them I became stronger in my Lutheran-ness. If Valpo has lost its calling (my words) to challenge and strengthen -- then there are two sources: Valpo has changed; and we (alumni, LCMS) have changed.

The student body is not predominately Lutheran because the world has changed and there is no going back to those days when this was a Lutheran institutions teaching Lutheran students.. Yet, Valpo should and can stand more clearly in the world as a distinctive Lutheran institution.

But Missouri (to put it in these terms) needs to stop standing on the sidelines. What would OP do today? A fair question for which I have no answer other than to say he would (1) pray; and (2) go forward to identify how together Lutherans can make Valpo a Lutheran institution that reflects the values the motto on Valpo’s seal.

God help us all!Rich Kauzlarichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04435925743346936088noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329600504016968888.post-60097276011716175582012-05-27T16:38:19.708-05:002012-05-27T16:38:19.708-05:00And Niedner's grandfather baptized me.
