This could have been a teaching moment about the power of self-denial and our wills conforming to Christ's will and to the power of the decision to love in accord with God's design but in the end it made a mockery of him, his wife, his family, and the whole issue of GLBT and the Gospel.Lutheran Lurkernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329600504016968888.post-67742981459546552622015-07-28T10:43:42.443-05:002015-07-28T10:43:42.443-05:00When the LCA and ALC said of Genesis "hath Go...When the LCA and ALC said of Genesis "hath God said," they ceased to stand for anything; therefore the only real surprise would be repentance and conversion.Kirk Skeptichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06142889734004402296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329600504016968888.post-66480361287816971222015-07-28T09:28:14.703-05:002015-07-28T09:28:14.703-05:00There was a time when the LCA and ALC stood for so...There was a time when the LCA and ALC stood for something, but that time is past. With the formation of ELCA, they bought into the popular culture and is has been all downhill at dizzying speed since then.

Why would any sane person go to such a church? What does it have to say to a man in the pew that he cannot find better in the popular media? It is mediocre entertainment at best, and there is nothing at all about recognizing sin, pursuing holiness, or eternal salvation. These are the exclusive province of the Church, and yet the ELCA has utterly abandoned them.

Fr.D+Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329600504016968888.post-56454372534063488912015-07-28T09:09:44.350-05:002015-07-28T09:09:44.350-05:00This is about as surprising as looking into a cess...This is about as surprising as looking into a cesspool and seeing nothing but cess.Kirk Skeptichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06142889734004402296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6329600504016968888.post-91977197896592197242015-07-28T09:08:44.358-05:002015-07-28T09:08:44.358-05:00I know the bishop well. I took my family out of the ELCA after the debacle in 2009, primarily because Bishop Kanouse could not provide any reassurances regarding the direction of the ELCA and the tone and tenor of the national youth gatherings and my eldest was about to start Confirmation.

My parents sent me the NTNL announcement yesterday and I responded thus:

"I wonder if he realizes that this doesn't mean what he thinks it might mean. Handled correctly this would mean that there is hope that a man with homosexual inclinations can meet a woman, get married, have a family, and move beyond the narrow confines of a sexual identity trap."

Also, as you note, he failed in the sermon which is a shame. He is very good in the pulpit when he focuses on Christ. Sadly, that Christ is not so much the focus any more; it is now the incurvatus in se.SKPetersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14809201586810781979noreply@blogger.com
