You watch it and tell me you do not agree. What has happened to the manner of speaking has implications far beyond from the way what we say actually sounds....
i like the title: "Modern" Kids losing Language and Confidence?
Losing it? They never had it from the beginning. Some people insist on speaking like teenagers well into their 20s and 30s. Those are the people who are not college educated. Such people are doomed to running the streets or to work part-time jobs in retail.
Of course, reading a lot helps make a person articulate, but who reads for fun anymore?
Do you have children? Do you have nieces and nephews? Do you or have you ever worked with or taught youth?
The worst thing we can do as adults (I'm 56) is to relegate young people to the dustbin. When we are disgusted or dismayed by their speech, we should work to improve it.
To say non-college educated people 1. don't speak like the 'uneducated,' says to me you likely haven't been on a college campus lately, and 2. It depends whole lot on WHAT you read.
I'm not trying to be rude, but I know plenty of young people (and adults) who need to rediscover language - and confidence. If I were one of them and ran into someone with your attitude, I'd be, like, still talkin' trash. Know what I mean?
Kids often speak this way because they spend so little time with adults. My son is a home schooled teen and he does not speak this way. Interestingly, he projects bold confidence which some of his peers find extremely annoying while others are drawn to him. He attracts really nice kids as friends, which is a relief to me as a parent. All of his friends have very involved parents. I think there is something of a connection there. They are all used to dealing with people with better reasoning and social skills and it translates to their interactions with one another. Just 2¢
