The Random Thoughts of a Lutheran Parish Pastor
I with Lutherans everywhere would copy Roman Catholic architecture for their churches and schools. The Catholics know how do it right!
This is such a significant issue, I am thankful Rev. Peters often addresses this. The April LW issue may be addressing this issue too. We built a complete new church and facility (100 year grade, $2 million for everything) just last year and submitted an article and photos to LW. We are continuing to add stained glass and artwork as funds are given. A brochure on the theology of architecture can be found at our website, risensaviorlcms.org. Interesting too, the Romans built a $5 million "barn-type" structure just .5 miles away and their priest and about 100 RC members have stopped in to look inside and commented on how "you Lutherans did it right and not like us."
Oh, and 2 executives in the LCEF told us, "no you don't want to do this, no one builds churches like this anymore, you won't be able to attract young people, you need to built a gym/multi-purpose center first, etc. "
"about 100 RC members have stopped in to look inside and commented on how "you Lutherans did it right and not like us." If they could only see some Lutheran churches with the traditional kanzelalter.
Rev. Weinkauf,Because your church does not have a "barn-type" structure, it serves as a unique magnet to attract visitors. Like tract housing, pole barn churches are everywhere. I have visited your website, and I would gladly attend if I lived in KS.The words and actions of Lutheran "executives" scare me. I am so sick of hearing that we should suppress all expressions of Lutheran beliefs, what we teach, believe, and confess "for the sake of the young people." It appears that Rev. Fisk, Chris Rosebrough, and Higher Things have a lot more work to do.I recently offered to pay to replace every single 1982 hymnal in my church with the LSB, but I was turned down. The assistant pastor told me that only the "old people" use the hymnal during the 8:00 am Sunday service anyway, so it would be a waste of money. What do you think about that?Let the young people have their gymnasium. Please leave the sanctuary traditional. My congregation plans on building within the next 5-7 years. You can bet that I will be ready to join a committee and argue for a traditional building.
Ummm....where do they place the praise band?
Wow. before looks like any traditional large-ish Baptist, Nazarene, non-denim. church building
