It is very interesting that the crucifix is off to one side while the chalice is on the other side. Could lead to some interesting discussion of symbolism.
I note also that the celebration is ad populem, not ad orientem. Even there, the chalice is to one side while the paten is shifted the other way. It all seems to be about visibility, rather than focus on what is central.
