Interesting choice of. . . ah. . . staff

So what kind of ah. . . staff. . . would you say this is?

  1. It is disgusting. It speaks clearly to what this pope and his ilk subscribe to: the heresy of formlessness. Androgeny. To say that I and other Catholics who are zealous for the Faith are embarrassed by him is an understatement. God help us.

  2. Neither Scripture, nor the Lutheran Confessions prescribe what a staff should look like, nor do they prescribe its use. Can't we reserve our pickiness for matters of substance?

  3. Goerge, this is a matter of substance regardless of denomination especially in out times of great confusion on gender and the sexes. And this picture was taken at the Synod on Youth who are super confused and misguided thanks to crack psychology and progressive political agenda. And as I understand it, Luther was not about destroying or getting rid od sacred art.

  4. And George, a Crucifix depicting an androgynous Christ is not something to be concerned about?

  5. Aside from the theological concerns, it is just butt ugly.

  6. It is somewhat odd that he wouldn't hold up a "plastic" bottle as he has in some quarters been called the "plastic pope"?

  7. Does this staff make me look fat?

  8. Ann Barnhart's blog has discussed this staff (which she says is a stang) at some length in the past few days. Here is a quote from Ann:

A Stang is a witch/warlock’s ceremonial staff. It is always forked, and always has an iron nail driven through it. Ideally it has a human form carved or integrated into it somehow. The Stang signifies several things, the first being a satan himself. Read the quote below from a witchcraft blog:

“Gary describes the Stang as primarily a symbolic tool rather than a working one, and as such it stands in for the Devil himself, holding his power and his dual nature. The Devil and the Stang is often less about strict duality and more about the transgressing of boundaries, The Devil being a spirit I often think of as non-binary and difficult to define in terms of absolutes.”

So, yes, it does appear to be rather significant.
