The confusion with popes is this. If a pope is a true pope (elected rightfully), he must be a good pope. Or because he is a good pope, he is certainly a true pope. The reality is far bleaker. There are plenty of bad popes who have been true popes. A pope may be legitimately elected and lousy. He probably is, in fact, because we have one now. Even those for whom he is not pope suffer from the lousy ones and do not gain much from the good ones (though, perhaps, for some we ought to be grateful). Too many are ignorant of the history of popes; Francis may seem to be an extremely bad example but bad popes are not that unusual.
I forever recall that line in the new Luther movie when Cajetan looked at the body of the dead pope with lament, we had hoped for a giant.... Indeed, many in Rome are so hoping today but the prospects are not good and Frank keeps on embarrassing himself, his church, and Christianity in general.
The pope is the Antichrist. It would be oxymoronic to describe him as a "good" Antichrist.
