In case you were wondering if the Reformation was still relevant, here is one reason why it is:
I guess the Pope did not read where Jesus said He was the Way, the Truth, and the Life -- the only way to the Father in heaven. In any case, despite his age, Pope Frank is pretty much in sync with the times and those who actually do agree with him.
If there was even a cause or reason for Lutheranism to remain vibrant and vital, it is in the strange and unChristian wonderings of this occupant of the throne of St. Peter.
To all my Roman Catholic friends: This people is worse than an embarrassment. He is a scandal to the faith and does more harm than good every time he opens his mouth.
A 1969 NYT article reported that carbon-14 tests by a Vatican archeological commission shown that the wood from the so-called "throne of St. Peter" actually dates from the 9th century.
ReplyDeleteBesides that, Scripture does not explicitly state, nor is there any reliable secular evidence, that Peter was ever in Rome.
The "throne of St. Peter" is a phony as the pope himself.
Irenaeus:
ReplyDelete“founded and established by the two most glorious apostles, Peter and Paul, at Rome."
To argue against Rome by doubting that Peter was ever Bishop of Rome, let alone ever in Rome, is both useless and questionable from Lutherans, who maintain that they are true to the faith of the Fathers, the tradition of the catholic and apostolic church. If we are going to doubt the basic historical facts that would have been apparent to the early church, so that if Rome began claiming an origin it had not (something others would call out no doubt), then we might as well call into question the reliability of the Fathers in other matters, because if Irenaeus, who was taught by St. Polycarp, who was taught by the Apostle John, along with the other early fathers, could be so wrong about the Petrine origin of the Roman church, then… If Rome lies, that’s one thing, but if Rome has always been built upon lies, that’s another, and that does no good for Lutherans, or any other Christians. Stick to the battles that matter.
