Noble simplicity or not . . .

Look and weep.   The minimalist and modern style of the proposed new liturgical furnishings for Notre Dame Paris aims for a ‘noble simplicity,’ but looks like Danish Modern or Mid-Century Modern in a building that is definitely not.  No wonder these choices have drawn criticism from art experts, Roman Catholic pundits, and other observers of the process.  They certainly do not look at home in the structure of the building.  You tell me what you think.

This is not noble simplicity but a negation of beauty, true beauty. It's utilitarian and shuns mystery and transcendence. It's not uplifting but depressing. It's a slap in the face to the artisans who adorned this magnificent edifice built for the Glory of God.

Wow, that is all very...awful! It's all awful, but the worst for me is the chairs in place of pews.

It is typical to find chairs and not pews in European Churches. There was a time when Mass was heard standing and not sitting and kneeling at the appropriate times.
