I ran across this ten year old lecture by Franky Schaeffer and it speaks well to so many points but it also reminds me that Franky Schaeffer has his own issues and demons. I point you to the video and some comments upon the Franky Schaeffer of the past and present (now, I believe, a reporter/commentator for the Huffington Post). Culture wars are not the battles we must fight as Christians but the honest battles of truth and the Gospel. Still, you have to hand it him. Schaeffer knows how to speak to a group of people. His passion often makes us forget to consider what exactly he is saying. He has a few great lines, to be sure. "We know how to survive persecution; do we know how to survive seduction." That is a good one... Well, with all my conflicts about him, I pass it on for you to hear and judge....
You can read some here. He has made a life of trashing his parents (especially his father) and it is hard to know which Franky Schaeffer is the real one, which voice (right or left), and which version of history is being hawked at the moment. Anyway, here is he...

Sure, he has no problems speaking his mind, but the shooting off of his mouth gets him into so much trouble. I can count several occasions where he really revved up the crowd with what he said only having to apologize for what he said later because it was largely ad hominem attacks.
The best thing to do with Franky is to ignore him.
Frank Schaeffer calling anyone a snake oil salesman is more than incidentally duplicitous. His open disdain for his parents brings dishonor upon himself. One would think that in his meandering from evangelicalism to orthodoxy he might have stumbled across and made acquaintance with the 4th Commandment.
It is sad to see what the devil has done to this man.
Would anyone know or care about this guy IF he did not have famous parents?
