Thrivent Financial for Anyone with Money

Thrivent Financial released its new logo Monday, dropping “for Lutherans” as the tradition-bound organization undergoes a seismic shift to open membership to all Christians.

The updated logo also simplifies what was a twisting heart-shaped symbol to more clearly depict a red heart with a cross in it. The new tagline: “Connecting faith & finances for good.”

“Updating our brand to make Christians feel welcome while honoring our past and the Lutheran families we have served for more than a century was something we gave a lot of thought to,” Thrivent’s vice president of membership marketing, Marie Uhrich, said in a news release.  (From the Star Tribute)

So apparently the official name cannot change (for Lutherans is something they are stuck with for now) but the old logo is not the only thing to change.  Where values thrive has been replaced simply Connecting Faith and Finances for Good.  Hmmmm.  It is generic, to be sure.  It is designed to offend no one except someone who perhaps takes faith seriously enough to believe in the protection of life at all stages, especially the unborn, which, in case Thrivent has forgotten it, comprises the overwhelming majority of Christians.  Perhaps they are targeting only liberal Christians who believe that abortion is a good thing or at least nothing bad enough to get all upset about...

I wonder if the folks in Appleton and Minneapolis really believe that they are honoring those who first put together a fraternal benefit society for Lutherans (then mostly for life insurance)... The lies we tell ourselves are the most dangerous.

This is a textbook example of why the heterodox do not leave church bodies or institutions that they wish to fundamentally change. Why leave when you can slowly work to take them over? Valpo, Thrivent, any number of other RSOs...when will the faithful learn and be more direct in confronting and removing those who challenge basic orthodox teaching?

I have a TSA with Thrivent, but desperately want to move it out. Any good suggestions on where to go?

It is time to begin a new insurance company for Lutherans who take the Word of God seriously.

re: wanting to move your accounts
You should check to see if there is someone in your congregation that is an independent financial adviser. Or even somebody that works for one of the big companies such as Edward Jones. They will be able to walk you through the process, ask you your goals etc.We moved our Thrivent monies early last year. Our adviser did all of the work for us. We simply gave him a quarterly statement from Thrivent, he did the paperwork and had us sign them. Check before hand how they are paid. They should be very upfront how they earn their money.

Use to work with the old AAL. This issue has been around for a long time. Many of us agents left when the merger took place. How many of the churches will still take the free money? Remember the old saying "your know by the company you keep"

I faithful Lutheran church and school would stop taking their money.
