A blessing for Synod and a loss for St. Paul's Hamel...

Good Pastor William Weedon announced on Sunday he believed the Lord had called him to be Chaplain at the International Center and Worship Director for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

While I am thrilled to have Pr Weedon as the "lead" Pastor of our church directing, resourcing, and supporting the best of evangelical and catholic worship practice, consistent with our Confessions, I cannot help but feel for the good folks at St. Paul's who will so sorely miss their Pastor of more than 20 years.  May the Lord bless them during the time of their consideration and supply them with someone worthy of the Office of the Ministry, as Pr. Weedon has been so faithful to the Lord and to the people there.

And pray for them all.... Good Pastor Weedon and the good folk at St. Paul's...

Blessings on Fr. Weedon. Hope he will still find time to 'do' hymns on IssueEtc.

I can hurt with his flock; some think 20 years is too long in one place, with one people If a pastor is a Father, then 20 years is too short....

Doesn't seem right to pull a pastor away from his divine call to the parish, does it? A bad day for the congregation. An unemployed pastor should have been selected.

Pastor Peters hopes that St. Paul
gets "someone worthy of the pastoral
office".

The assumption seems to be that not
all pastors on the clergy roster
of the LCMS are worthy of the office.

Sounds like a little Hubris from
our resident blogger who meanders
away from trust in God to provide.

Geeesh....

First the statement "An unemployed pastor should have been selected..." which would completely disregard the gifts and abilities of the person for such a specialized call. Besides, when we call someone to a position of leadership for the whole church, do we not seek the best person for that position?

As far as the comment against the word "worthy," it was a comment I make when all parishes are calling a Pastor -- which, by the way, is the real sense of the election or call -- not the picking of someone who is a good fit but the acclamation that the candidate is worthy (axios) -- a tradition that goes back to the earliest of days!

Pr. Weedon has been judged worthy by the call issued to him from Synod (like but unlike a parish call since it does involve specialized skills that parish ministry may or may not require) and this is what St. Paul Hamel will judge the man who replaces him...

I was more than a little puzzled when Pastor Weedon called his new position a demotion.
