My guess would be that the owner was trying to stress the fact that a “smoke free” environment was conducive to ensuring the crucifix had not suffered degradation from indoor pollutants, emphasizing that the quality was retained.i think the crucifix argument, as opposed to the empty cross symbolism, come to mind when viewing these Christian icons found in our homes and churches. Although the crucifix upon which a figure of Christ is fixed does reveal the reality of redemption, and the suffering of Jesus for the sins of the world, the plain simple unadorned cross stresses His resurrection.. Perhaps, both are acceptable. But I prefer the simple cross. I suppose it is within Christian liberty to choose either one. Soli Deo Gloria
