From purple to scarlet...

We leave the palms from Palm Sunday in the chancel and on the large wooden cross that sits to the side.  As Holy Week continues, the palms dry out and curl up and look exactly like the journey that we are taken on from the palms and hosannas of welcome to the shouts of crucify that end up in death.

It is not a big deal and it happened more by accident than by plan but people have noticed and see the unfolding story in this small visual cue.

We had scarlet paraments made a few years ago -- simple ones adorned only by a black stripe.  It is one of the ways that color distinguishes this week from all others in the Church Year.

I have attached a few photos for those who might be curious -- from the purple of Lent to the scarlet of Holy Week.
