Tips for those considering a Dr. Seuss liturgy...

Ever wonder what other Lutherans are lookin at in their own denominational magazine...

Read it all below:

  • Be not afraid.  Have fun!
  • Make a cooperative effort of creataive people...
  • Pick songs and hymns that speak to and of children and child-like faith...
  • Decorate your sanctuary with Seuss books...
  • Encourage children to bring a Seuss stuffed animal....
  • Refer to the The Gospel According to Dr. Seuss or The Parables of Dr. Seuss...
  • Worshipers should practice the liturgy so they read and pray it with dignity and reverence...
No kidding!!!  It was advertized in The Lutheran and lists this web site for information on a sample Dr. Seuss liturgy or helps on how to do one in your parish.... www.thelutheran.org/feature/january...

Theodor Geisel had to be one of the more famous modern Lutherans but. . . a "Seusscharist"????

For you have given us this great time,
filled with laughter, humor and rhyme.
And you have shown us your holy love,
that you have sent from heaven high above...

And they served green eggs and ham and a good time was had by all...  Truth is always stranger than fiction... always!

These Seusscharists have become popular with the Episcopalians in my area. Thankfully most South Carolina Lutherans seem to have the good sense to avoid this and sense that it is irreverent.

Again more pandering to the base needs of people and it just proves that way too many Lutherans (both LCMS and outside) view the Liturgy as entertainment.

Though I appreciate traditional liturgies in the church, as leaders we need to recognize that all liturgies are merely a tool to communicate God's Word and Sacraments. If Dr. Seuss can help with that, then why not utilize it?
