Beyond belief. . . beautiful!

Koriyama Second Junior High School ( The Vocal Ensemble Competition Japan 2010 )
Mozart Missa Brevis KV 275 Performed by Japanese High Schoolers. . .

Sadly, too many high school choral programs in American schools are unison singing to a soundtrack, usually a poor attempt at mimicking a pop artist. . . at least that is what it looks like down South. . . We worry about being bested in science, math, etc... we ought to wake up to the lead such schools have over us in terms of music!

One thing that always strikes me when I see a group of oriental young people is their self discipline. Our American youth would feel so put upon to be asked to follow this model; they all want to think of themselves, and be seen, as free spirits, marching to their own drummer. They are repulsed by the idea that there is a corporate good that can and should prevail over their individuality. The reject discipline in all forms and all guises. The result is all-American chaos. To produce music such as this requires a willingness to accept the discipline to meet the group objective.

You can find disciplined American youth. They are located close to American parents who are willing to expend the energy required to discipline them.
