I love those deep blue ceilings like at Christ Church Cathedral, Ottawa, Canada!

I guess Eastern Rite Churches need not apply, right?

These are spectacular, although I have to admit that I would have other nominations for most beautiful churches, too. I have only been to two...the Cathedral in STL and in Montreal. However, my favorite thing to do in Europe is see the Catholic churches and I have seen some that are so beautiful they seem to be not of this earth which would be the goal if attempting to create sacred space, no?

Chris, I think there are spectacular Eastern Churches as well, of course, but for the uninitiated Western eye, it can take a while to understand and appreciate the beauty of an Eastern Church. So no fault for not having any photos in this article on that point. But I will fault it for choosing Würzburg Cathedral in Bavaria over the chapel at Andechs!
