NOT what to do in Church. . .

Click here for video that is upbeat, positive, has a good sound, a beat you can dance to, and has already proven to be a crowd pleaser.  But it is not church...

If the Church cannot approach God with reverence and the vocabulary of Scripture, we cannot approach God by means of a lack of reverence and awe and the words of man.  The problem is not that the Church is too distinctive for the world to notice but that the Church is no longer distinctive and so the world sees nothing in the Church's walk or witness to notice.

Pray that the future holds less of these and more of these:

There are some Lutherans who outshine the Romans in their reverence and faithfulness.  We don't need to follow the Romans in their goofiness.

The video of this Catholic mass is very disturbing. It's difficult to watch. But now take a look at this video of a "Divine Service" at a LCMS church in your southern district.

I find the video of this "lutheran" service troubling as well. It's a classic Baptist/evangelical type service with the Lord's Prayer thrown in. Pastor Peters, I am totally baffled how your church and the church in the video can be part of the same denomination. There's plenty of goofiness to go around. We live in strange and troubling times.

Seriously Pastor Peters? Is it that ALL "Romans" are goofy in the approach to our Lord in the Liturgy or are you just trying to pat yourself on the back for celebrating, I admit, a beautiful liturgy? That is like saying All Lutherans are on the same page theologically and liturgically. Ugh.....

Daniel G, I would think that Pastor Peters' point is rather obvious. He did not state that ALL Romans Catholics are goofy. Instead, he was dividing Roman Catholics into at least two groups: there are Roman Catholics who are known for "their reverence and faithfulness", and there are others who are known for "their goofiness". (He ignored those who may be neither reverent nor goofy, but rather bland people.) Then he urged Lutherans to (continue to) try to be more reverent than the reverent people in the Roman Catholic Church, not goofier than the goofy individuals in the Roman Catholic Church.

James that sounds fair but he said THE goofy Romans which, to me, is an aggregate or all Romans. Had he said, liberal/progressive Romans (I hate that derogatory term but you are Lutheran after all) I would have had no problem because he is correct. It pains me to attend Mass at an ordinary parish because the Mass is, well, ordinarily badly offered with bad, banal music, bad exposition of the Gospel and very often a social commentary and lots of jokes. Ugh....
