Starting at 1:42:48 in the "Martin Luther: The Idea That Changed the World" video:

Hugh Bonneville, narrator: "Ironically, in the very same decade that Hitler was beginning to use Luther to justify oppression, an American visiting Germany saw Luther as an inspiration to do the opposite. The American was so take by the story of Martin Luther's bold fight against oppression, he changed his name from Michael King to Martin Luther King, Sr."

Roosevelt Gray, M.Div., Director of Black Ministry, LCMS: "When he came from Germany he said to his son that we're going to change our names to Martin Luther and we're going to be Martin Luther King - Martin Luther King, Sr. and Martin Luther King, Jr. So this resonated greatly in the black community."

Richard J. Perry, Jr., Ph.D. Professor, Lutherana School of Theology at Chicago: "He saw something there in terms of Martin Luther that he grabbed hold of and said this is who we are."

I call "FAKENEWS!" "FAIRY TALE!" "URBAN LEGEND!" "HOGWASH!" "AN OLD WIVES' TALE!" "A CROCK!" "BS!" For crying out loud! Is this revisionist obsfuscation that Martin Luther King, Sr. renamed himself after Martin Luther going to be hyped as "history" in the Missouri Synod as well?!?

Here are three evidences against such FAKENEWS.

Here are the fourth and fifth evidences.

Here is the sixth (circumstantial) evidence.

Here is the seventh evidence.

Here is one possible and ironic source for the historical revisionist FakeNews.
