Our Common Bond is the Name Lutheran

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans logo Facebook logo Twitter logo
As a faith-based organization, we're called to serve. Extending our common bond will allow us to help more people be wise with money and live generously. Be part of one of the most important decisions in our organization's history! From March 1 to April 30, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans benefit members can vote on extending our common bond from Lutheran to Christian.

Well, if you have been reading this blog, you know how I will vote.  Thrivent says they are called to serve more people.   Called by God?  Or moved by the prospect of more money?

I have nothing against others; let them start their own Aid Association for Druids or Ba'hai Brotherhood, or, excuse me, Prospervent Financial for Wiccans.  Leave the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans -- FOR Lutherans.  When Thrivent has served every possible Lutheran to the best of their ability and to meet all their needs, well, then, maybe I would consider it.  But that is not the case yet.

As for me and my house, we will leave Thrivent. We haven't put any money into Thrivent for years, mainly because they say they're Lutheran, but their actions prove otherwise.

Pr. Peters: It is important for all Thrivent members to read the Thrivent line for this change -- they are becoming Aid Association for Everyone. Basically you can self-select as a Christian -- the only standard being accepting the Apostles Creed. Basically that means anyone can join -- including non-Christians it seems to me. A sad process.

When (not if) can the Muslims apply for a Thrivent grant?

I understand and agree with the concerns over this, but I can't help but ask if it was already lost once it was expanded to include 'Lutherans' outside the LCMS synod. After all, not merely the term "Christian", but even the name "Lutheran" means alot of different, often contrary things to alot of people. Just sayin'

I am not sure that it was ever only LCMS but a solid Lutheran identity was required.

What I do not understand if you will not purchase from Thrivent what is your alternative? Is there another company that will support everything that you think is right? I am sure you have products produced from non-Christians.Also if your church has a Lutheran School I suppose you will not allow non-Lutheran children to attend.
